ANTONIO BAIRD’S departure from home was always followed by a prayer from his mother, Annette Baird.
When the 20-year-old Inch Cape, St Philip lad took up deejaying to earn money to buy his own car while he attended the University of the West Indies (UWI), Annette didn’t like it.
However, she covered him in prayer every time he left home to do a “DJ job” and waited for his safe return.
Yesterday morning after several calls to his cellphone to find out why he was so late getting home, Annette’s worst fears materialized. She got news that he had been involved in an accident.
Baird, better known as Guerrilla Soundz, died on the spot at Woodbourne Main Road, St Philip, after the vehicle he was driving slammed into the guard wall of Aileen Ramsay’s property around 3:45 a.m.
Two of his three passengers were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance.
Jamario Maynard, 16, of 2nd Avenue, Inch Cape, complained of head and neck injuries;
Natasha Hiplal, 16, of Content Cot, St Philip, complained of head, neck and injuries to her legs; and Mario Lowe, 17, of Union, St Philip, complained of pain to the right leg.
Baird’s mother said that her son was a third-year banking and finance student at UWI.
Baird was Barbados’ 17th road death for the year. (CT)
