Eight stores in the Gateway Mall have been hit by thieves over the past two days.
Store owners arrived at the mall yesterday to find their locks broken off or damaged and their cash registers emptied of all cash. According to the store owners’ accounts, the thieves took over $1 000 in cash and $765 in clothing.
When the MIDWEEK NATION team visited the mall yesterday workmen were busy replacing the lock at Lalita’s Boutique. The cash register had been broken into but there was no cash there.
Shirley Teskadabee-Lovell, owner of Shirley’s Variety, said $60 had been taken from her cash register and several drinks taken from the refrigerator.
