Doctors have criticized the chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) for referring to proposed salary increases that were not discussed at a negotiation meeting Tuesday, but the hospital’s chief executive officer Dexter James, who attended the meeting, insists that the doctors walked out because they were only interested in the increases.
James said that the doctors’ walkout from the meeting suggested they were solely interested in financial benefits. He said the meeting’s agenda included finalizing a performance appraisal instrument for all categories of doctors, which the doctors’ representative body the Barbados Association of Medical Practioners (BAMP) was aware of.
But this was not finalized. Instead, James said, the doctors left the meeting.
“One would have thought that the finalization of a performance appraisal instrument for all categories of doctors would be imperative for discussion,” he added.
