Church call

The Anglican community in Barbados is spearheading an initiative to get Barbadians flocking to churches next Sunday.
Bishop of Barbados and Archbishop of the West Indies Dr John Holder told the DAILY NATION Christians in other dioceses use such a day to draw people’s attention to the significance and importance of the church and to remind them of how “the institution can still affect and influence people for good”.
“It will also be, we hope, a way of reaching out to people and connecting or reconnecting to people,” he said.
An advertisement in yesterday’s Sunday Sun promoted September 25 as Back To Church Sunday and even though it was sponsored by the Anglican Church, it is an ecumenical effort.
“It has to do with all the churches, but we sponsor the ad in the hope that every year we will have this ad in the paper just to remind people that the church is here, if they’ve forgotten, and what we’ve done in the past, what we can do now and how we can influence them for good,” Holder explained.
