Former Opposition Leader Mia Mottley’s quest to take over the chairmanship of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has apparently failed.
According to reliable sources, medical practitioner Dr Jerome Walcott had won 19 of the 30 constituency branch votes, plus the two league votes, with Mottley getting four votes when nominations closed on Friday for the post of BLP chairperson 2011-2012.
Walcott, the BLP’s candidate for Christ Church South, received two confirmations from the party’s Women’s League and its youth arm the League of Young Socialists, according to the sources.
Walcott, a former Minister of Health, told the DAILY NATION yesterday that he could not comment at this stage.
