Off-spinner Kemar Smith captured a maiden career-best five-wicket haul for Barbados Youth but YMPC enjoyed a fine day being dismissed for a healthy 305 from 45.5 overs.
Smith took six for 72 from 10.5 overs.
YMPC gained four vital maximum batting points in the bottom-of-the-table clash.
At the close, Barbados Youth recovered from nine for two to 87 without further loss.
Jonathan Drakes was unbeaten 45 and Akeem Springer, 32. They have so far shared an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 78. Drakes faced 70 balls and struck six lovely fours, while opener Springer’s 110-ball knock contained four fours in just over two hours.
Shane Parris was snapped up at slip off the first ball of the innings from Jed Yearwood, and Craigg St Hill played on to Nekoli Parris for five.
Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Steven Blackett with 79 and Jeremy Brathwaite (58) laid the foundation for YMPC’s total with an enterprising partnership of 91 in 16 overs. Brathwaite’s innings included four fours and an equal amount of sixes from 52 balls before he was caught at long-on attempting another six.
Parris made a quick-fire 31 with two fours and two sixes until he was caught and bowled by Aamir Thomas.
Blackett’s third half-century of the season came at a run ball and was decorated with six fours and four sixes in two hours.
He shared an attractive third-wicket stand of 75 with Ryan Wiggins who made a cameo 40 off 29 deliveries.
Wiggins was the first wicket for 17-year-old Alleyne school student Smith, who had him caught at long-on.
Smith is the younger brother of YMPC’s captain and West Indies T/20 player Dwayne Smith.
He also got rid of Shamar Cooke (23), Mark Trotman, and he took his fifth wicket when Calvin Watson was caught at long-on. Jed Yearwood was last out, caught and bowled by Smith for 34 at better than a run-a-ball.
