PORT OF Spain, Trinidad, CMC – Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar was discharged from the private St. Clair Medical Center on Friday, two days after she was admitted to the institution complaining of feeling unwell.
She told reporters that her doctors wanted to conduct thorough tests on her given her age.
“They say people my age should have an intensive medical checkup every year. I haven’t had one for quite a while,” the 60-year-old head of government told reporters as she left the hospital on the outskirts of the capital.
“So it was important that when I came in they decided to do all these executive medical checkup. A number of tests were done, they were very scary,.” she added.
Prime Minister Persad Bissessar had been taken to the hospital on Wednesday after she complained that she had been feeling unwell while attending an official function.
She told reporters that she had problems with diabetes and hypertension which promoted the doctors to do the full check up adding that she had been given a clean bill of health.
“…everything is fine, just my medicine for the diabetes and hypertension needed to be readjusted. They were able yesterday to have all of that totally under control and balanced and yesterday when I did the CT Scan, it was very scary thing when I reacted apparently to the dye and they felt it best to keep me because I had brought down the blood pressure for a bit.and it got me a bit weaker than when I came in.
“I am fine now, doctors have advised me to take some rest over the weekend and then take it quietly next week,” she added.
A statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister earlier this week said she had  “been on a hectic schedule over the past two months during which time she continued to work through a bout of dengue from which she is still recovering”.
Earlier her Education Minister Dr. Tim Gopeesingh said that her right swollen foot had been as a result of two cans of food falling on it a few days ago.
He said x-rays had showed no fracture but that there had been tissue swelling.
