BARBADOS’ World Cup dreams vanished when they suffered another humiliating 2-0 defeat by Guyana in their Group B CONCACAF qualifying football match at the National Stadium last night.
Substitute Anthony Abrams (73rd) and captain Christopher Nurse (87th) sent Barbados crashing to their third straight defeat by a two-goal margin, replicating the first-leg result at Guyana National Stadium early last month.
Barbados, who were also beaten 2-0 by Trinidad and Tobago, enjoyed the early exchanges and had Guyana defending desperately, while at the defensive end Wigan Athletic English Premier League professional Emmerson Boyce, wearing the captain’s armband, was a tower of strength.
The Bajan Tridents, watched by former national cricket captain Ryan Hinds and several past Barbados Football Association council members and past national footballers, created at least six goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, but failed to bury any. (EZS)
