Lawyers for jailed Jamaican entertainer Vybz Kartel are expected to make a bail application when the artiste appears in the Gun Court Division of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today. Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of firearm. The charges relate to the shooting death of St Catherine businessman and promoter Barrington Burton. Burton was shot and killed while standing with friends in Gregory Park, St Catherine, in July. Last night, Kartel’s lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson said the prosecution is relying on weak circumstantial evidence to convict his client. However, Tavares-Finson would not elaborate, saying he would further comment when he makes his case in court today. The popular entertainer has been in custody since he was held along with three other persons at a New Kingston hotel two weeks ago for possession of ganja.
