Poppy pleasure

Toddler Lea having the time of her life deciding which bright red poppy she wants. Lea, with mummy Florence Barbin-Payne, joined thousands of Barbadians and millions worldwide this past week in honouring fallen soldiers during the month of November.
The floral tradition was inspired by Canadian military doctor John McCrae’s poem Flanders Fields. In it the first sign of life after death was small red plants that grew on the graves of soldiers in northern France and Belgium during World War I.
This morning in National Heroes Square, the Remembrance Day ceremony honouring war veterans will take place.
