Alexandra vigil for Patrina

Tributes flowed last Sunday night as Alexandra School in St Peter held a vigil in memory of former student Patrina Lord.
Present and past students, friends and family as well as principal Jeff Broomes remembered the 31-year-old with fondness.
The most moving tribute came from Lord’s mother, Clovina Thorpe. Her  tears flowed freely as she  reflected on the death of Patrina, whose body was discovered in a cart road five days after she went missing on November 2.
“It is hard, it is very hard to lose my daughter in the prime of her life, just when she was trying to soar and do things to better her life,”  said Thorpe, who was looking forward to her daughter’s graduation from the Barbados Community College next year.
Many who would have known Lord and sat with her in class at school wore their school ties proudly as they took part in the evening’s proceedings.
The group AX Beacons rendered two touching pieces, When I Think About The Lord and Breathe. These reminded everyone that God is worthy of praise in all things.
Climaxing the evening, Curtis Gibbons of the Alexandra Alumni Association presented a plant to Thorpe, after which people marched around the school premises with candles, singing the school song. (RL)
