Ministry: Vending on highway illegal

Vending on the highway is dangerous and the Ministry of Transport and Works is warning the public against it.
In a Press release yesterday the ministry made particular mention of those selling along the ABC Highway.
“The ministry is very aware of persons plying their trade on the shoulders and islands, which were constructed as safety measures and for road users in emergency situations.
“The ministry advises vendors and their customers to desist from this dangerous practice. Persons put themselves at great risk by participating in this activity.” the release stated.    
Some areas where vending is ongoing and pose a danger are the JTC Ramsay Circle (Emancipation Roundabout); Warrens, near the D’Arcy Scott Roundabout; at Hinds Hill, near the traffic signals; and Hothersal Turning.
The Ministry of Transport and Works is working on amendments to the Road Traffic Act to address vending on the highways, as well as working on a proposal to prepare sites off the highways for this purpose, where vendors and their customers can operate safely. (PR)
