CASTRIES, St. Lucia – A total of 52 candidates yesterday filed the necessary nomination papers with elections officials in St. Lucia, confirming their participation in the November 28 general elections.
Those nominated will represent the ruling United Workers Party (UWP) led by Stephenson King; the main opposition St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) led by Kenny Anthony; the Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM) led by Therold Prudent; the National Development Movement (NDM) of Ausbert d’Auvergne; and the Green Party represented by Andre de Caires.The political leaders have expressed confidence that their candidates will perform creditably in the poll.The UWP captured 11 of the 17 seats in the December 11, 2006 election when approximately 58 per cent of the 132,500 registered voters turned out at the polls.
