TWO ENTITIES working toward restoring the Empire Theatre are not on a campaign against Government.
The organizations Beat Foundation under Canadian businessman Jim McGowan and The Empire Strikes Back led by music producer Mikey Hulsmeier cleared the air yesterday on plans for the dilapidated Probyn Street, City theatre following concerns by Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley that a negative campaign had been mounted on social media network Facebook.
McGowan told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday that Beat Foundation had put in a proposal to Government since January, followed by a presentation, and his organization planned to raise funds to restore the Empire to its original and historic look, outfit it with world-class equipment and operate it for the entertainment of the public.
He said, however, that he was concerned about the perception of a negative campaign and had written an open letter to Hulsmeier on Facebook expressing his view about a meeting of artistes today at the Boatyard. (RJ)
