OVER HALF-DOZEN businesses along Baxters Road in The City remained closed yesterday – one of the busiest shopping days – due to a fire of unknown origin that gutted Sermac Laundry.
The fire reportedly broke out at the large laundromat in the wee hours of the morning. Losses incurred are not yet known.
Standing outside the cordoned off area, Bis Ramsingh, who lives upstairs his Bisco Fruits & Vegetable shop next door to the burnt-out laundromat, recalled noticing the smoke about 3 a.m. and alerting the Barbados Fire Service.
Ramsingh told the SUNDAY SUN he was awake when he smelled smoke, and went to check. (MM)

Full story in today’s SUNDAY SUN.
