Damien Leacock and Aisha Comissiong walked away on Sunday night with the top prize in this year’s National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) as some of the most outstanding entrants demonstrated why they were deemed to be among the best.
Leacock, with his musical piece entitled Faeries and Leprechauns, and Comissiong, who choreographed Dancin’ Africa’s Remembering Forgotten Souls, both won Prime Minister’s scholarships worth $35 000.
The two were among NIFCA’s top performers who were rewarded at the ceremony at Ilaro Court for their outstanding entries.
Carlisle Trotman received $3 500 for copping the Prime Minister’s Award for Best Original NIFCA Entry for his visual arts piece Self Portrait.
In the culinary arts category, Susan Taylor won six gold medals, while there were three golds for Leroy Blackman and two for Julie Norville.
Kirtis Norville and Adam Patterson also picked up three gold medals each in the visual arts adult non-professional category. (RB)
