THE?BARBADOS NURSES ASSOCIATION yesterday presented the Barbados Cancer Society (BCS)?with a cheque for $2 000 to assist with its Client Support Services programme.
Maureen Graham presented the cheque to Honorary Secretary of the BCS Dr Dorothy Cooke-Johnson on behalf of BNA President Joan Cumberbatch.
She said the association, which was celebrating its 45th anniversary next year, had assisted various organizations in Barbados over the years including district hospitals, the Lupus Foundation, the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Diabetes Association.
Cooke-Johnson said the funds would be a major help to the social care programme. The money is going towards assisting people who have breast cancer and pancreatic cancer.
The Society will consult Mara Thompson, wife of late Prime Minister David Thompson, who died of pancreatic cancer, Cooke-Johnson reported.
She said that because of the tough economic situation, a number of cancer victims had been coming to the Cancer Society for assistance, especially in purchasing drugs.
She said even though the drugs were very expensive, the BCS would continue to provide assistance with not only medication but sickroom supplies and overall aid to families in need.
