LOCAL HEAVYWEIGHT BOXER and robbery accused Anderson “Tootsie” Emmanuel was yesterday granted bail just in time to spend Christmas at home with his family.
And the hierarchy of the Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados (ABAB) demonstrated strong support for him, with president Anthony Jones standing as surety after Chief Justice Marston Gibson granted the $20 000 release.
Emmanuel, 26, of Fairway Gardens, Christ Church, had been refused bail on Monday when he appeared before Magistrate Graveney Bannister in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court, charged with robbing Guyanese national Russell Whyte of four bracelets valued $4 500, two rings valued $8 400, a chain valued $2 000 and $3 000 in cash on July 24.
Unlike lower court prosecutor Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim, Senior Crown Counsel Roy Hurley did not object to Emmanuel’s release at yesterday’s bail hearing. However, the country’s most decorated boxer had to surrender his passport and will also be required to report to Worthing Police Station three times a week as a condition of his bail.
