Holness wins seat

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness retained his St Andrew West Central seat, but his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) appears heading for defeat in the general elections here on Thursday.
Holness polled 7 844 to the 6 723 received by the main opposition People’s National Party’s (PNP) Patrick Robers.
But preliminary results show that the PNP has so far won 25 of the seats declared as against 13 for the JLP.
Among the early winners, is the PNP leader and president Portia Simpson-Miller who has won the St Andrew South West seat.
Sharon Haye Webster, the former PNP legislator, who crossed the floor to represent the JLP lost the St Catherine Eastern constituency to the PNP’s Denise Daley.
The two main parties are seeking to take control of the 63-member Parliament for the next five years. (CMC)
