Centenarians’ secrets

Date:

I COULD BE WRONG, but I get the impression that 2011 may have been a record year for the number of Barbadians becoming centenarians.

I did, however, note that a large number of those who have reached that age have attributed this achievement to two principal factors, viz:

1. Putting their faith and trust in God and accepting whatever He chose for them in life.

2. Eating plenty of ground provisions such as sweet potatoes, yams, eddoes, cassava, and so on.

Both of the above seem to make good sense.

The first relieves you of a great deal of stress – and stress can be the other silent killer, while the second provides much needed fibre for cleansing the body, as well as carbohydrates for energy, which was consumed by hard manual work and a great deal more walking than is done today.
