Thousands of Barbadian hotel workers have been assured there will be no mass layoffs in the sector this year.
The undertaking has come from Colin Jordan, president of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA), who said the body was committed to keeping its workers employed.
“We will not be engaging in any mass layoffs in the sector in 2012. We have been holding since 2008 with regard to employment . . . .
“We have a system that has worked over the years where when occupancy is low there are layoffs for short periods of time or we would reduce hours,” Jordan told private sector officials attending the Broad Street Journal breakfast meeting on Taking A Positive Approach To Barbados’ Economic Crisis: What We Can Do Right Now at Hilton Barbados yesterday.
