GOVERNMENT IS PLANNING a major Scotland District reconstruction which is estimated to cost millions of dollars. Minister of Transport and Works John Boyce told the SUNDAY SUN the multimillion-dollar project would involve the reopening of roads, the repair of damaged bridges and provision of easy access to many rural districts.
Calling it an area of neglect, Boyce said: “Currently we are in discussion with the Caribbean Development Bank [CDB] towards assisting funding with the design work.”
He is hopeful the project will start within the next financial year, and estimates it can take about five years to complete.
“With the erosion that has been going on over the years, we recognized that these areas need a major project. There’s a whole lot of work to be done and it will stretch from Newcastle [St John] right over to the Scotland area in St Joseph and St Andrew,” Boyce added.
