DESPITE TOUGH ECONOMIC times, Barbados attracted more visitors to its shores last year than in 2010.
According to David Rice, president and chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), last year’s tourism figures grew by over seven per cent with over 572 000 tourists visiting the island, an increase of over 38 000 visitors when compared to the previous year.
“What was most noticeable is that this performance was better than the performance of 2008, which was a growth year. We in Barbados had an improvement of over one full per cent over 2008,”?Rice told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
The BTA chief also expressed satisfaction with the growth in the Caribbean market, particularly Trinidad and Tobago.
