RAUL T. GARCIA is eating again. And human rights activist/lawyer David Comissiong says “concrete” steps are being taken to have him “transferred to a non-punitive facility” without the “restrictions and privations” of Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds.
The Cuban-born refugee yesterday suspended his hunger strike, as Government continued to search for a resolution to his incarceration at Dodds.
The MIDWEEK NATION was reliably informed yesterday that Garcia had amended his stance so as to give Government time to pursue options to either relocate him or eventually find a country willing to accept him as a resident.
“Mr Garcia is eating porridge and is now on a liquid diet,” the source said yesterday. “He has indicated his actions are intended to give Government time to pursue certain options regarding his status.”
