GENERAL?SECRETARY?of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Sir Roy Trotman, is disappointed in the length of time it is taking Minister of Labour and Social Security Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo to bring the union and telecommunications company LIME to the negotiating table.
“Up to today [Sunday], I have not yet heard the Ministry of Labour, the Chief Labour Officer, nor the Minister of Labour herself. I find this rather disappointing. Although everybody is busy, I don’t want anybody to get the impression that the BWU does not want to have a speedy resolution,” Sir Roy told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
It has been a week since negotiations between the BWU and LIME were forwarded to the minister, following a breakdown in wages talks chaired by Chief Labour Officer Vincent Burnett.
The union had warned of a strike if LIME did not improve on its seven per cent pay hike offer to bring it closer to the 17 per cent rise being sought by the union, but it acceded to the Chief Labour Officer’s request to hold off industrial action to allow the Minister of Labour to try for a resolution.
