Amidst all the controversy of the two remixes Rihanna did with Chris Brown, the Bajan beauty scooped the gong for International Female Solo Artist at the BRIT Awards in London today.
It was no doubt a nice birthday present for Rihanna who turned 24 yesterday. The Barbados-born beauty, who looked striking in a plunging bejewelled bronze gown, ran up on stage to collect the gong off Jenson Button. Accepting the honour, she thanked her record label as well as her fans, saying: “Thanks to all my fans who continue to support me no matter what – I love you, this is for you. And at times when I feel misunderstood my fans always remind me that it’s OK to be myself and I will never forget you for that, so thank you.” It’s the second year in a row the star has won the title, also picking it up in 2011. Tonight Rihanna was up against stiff competition, with Beyonce, Bjork, Feist and Lady Gaga all in the running for the coveted title of International Female Solo Artist. She is also coming off a win for best Rap/Sung Collaboration for All the Lights at the Grammys last week. Rihanna performed We Found Love in tonight’s BRIT Awards ceremony. (NSH)
