Let’s talk medicine (SOCIAL SCENE)

MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL MEDICAL FRATERNITY were seen rubbing shoulders with eminent international surgeons at an Accra Beach Hotel reception hosted by Minister of Health Donville Inniss last week.
Professor Richard Heald of Britain, the man responsible for the development of the total mesorectal excision (TME) technique for rectal cancer;  Michael Parker, British consultant laparoscopic, general and colorectal surgeon; John H. Marks, president of the International Society of Colorectal Surgeons and Lars Pahlman, head of the Colorectal Unit at the Department of Surgery, University Hospital, Uppsala, Sweden, were among the distinguished guests. So too were professor Timothy Rockall, president of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and Mr Myrddin Ress, a consultant hepatobiliary surgeon at North Hampshire Hospital and a past chairman of the UK?Liver Surgeons Group.
It was a rare treasured opportunity for the medical professionals to share light moments with some of Barbados’ upcoming surgeons after the experts had imparted some of their extensive knowledge and experience at the first day’s session of the first ever International Colorectal Cancer Conference to be held in Barbados. The conference lasted four days.
