Players braved the rains and slippery courts last week to book places in the next round of the Pine Hill Dairy Tennis Championships at the Ocean View Tennis Club.
Russell Moseley’s impressive form continued in the men’s open division where he defeated Dylan Hall 6-2, 6-3 to claim his semi-final spot.
No. 4 seed Andrew Thornton and No. 5 Bernard Frost engaged in a keen battle, which saw Frost displaying his experience to capture the first set 6-4. However Thornton bounced back with some explosive serves to claim the second set 6-2 and went on to win the third 7-5 in an entertaining encounter.
Christopher King, on his return after completion of his tennis scholarship at Newman University, showed his worth with a comfortable victory over Duncan Evanson 6-1, 6-4.
King’s opponent for the semi-finals would have beeen former Davis Cup player Ryan Moseley who defeated Adrian Brandon 6-1, 6-1.
It was always a tough task for Brandon who was offered the match after No. 1 seed Seanon Williams was forced to withdraw with what seemed to be a shoulder injury.
The keenly anticipated semi-final show down between Ryan Moseley and King was unfortunately rained out and the rescheduled match was awarded to Moseley after King had to attend to some overseas commitments.
Ryan will now await his brother Russell or Thornton in the men’s finals.
In junior action, Ajani King, No. 5 seed in the boys’ Under-16s, dismissed the higher ranked Andrew Symmonds 7-5, 6-4 to clinch a semi-final spot.
His opponent will be determined when Simon Lewis and Matthew Estwick do battle.
In another quarter-final match, Brandon Lee was leading Joshua Worme 6-1, 1-0 when the showers came. The winner of this match will face the winner of the final quarter-final between Jared Spencer and Aquille Trotman.
