Visitors pull one back

Cheshire?saved their best performance for last, defeating a Barbados select polo side 7-5 ½ at the Holders Hill Polo Ground, to end their four-game Nissan/Cheshire Polo tour on a winning note on Sunday.
After losing 12-5 in the opening match last week Sunday at the same venue, and then again 7-4 in the second match of the tour, the visiting English team were playing for nothing but pride, after Thursday’s match had been abandoned because of rain.
This meant that the Barbados side held an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series going into Sunday’s final game.
And it looked as if the home side, comprising Philip Tempro, Jaime Dickson, Teddy Williams and Danny Atwell, would make the series a clean sweep after jumping out to a quick 5 ½ -1 lead.
However, the Cheshire team of Lucy Taylor, Jonny Coddington, Tarquin Southwell and Ollie Taylor, put on a superb display to orchestrate a stunning come-from-behind victory.
It proved to be the ideal climax to the tour for the visitors, who recorded their first victory of the tour in front of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
A Cheshire Under-21 side had also gone down 6-1 to a Barbados Under-21 team in their lone match of the series.
Yesterday, attention shifted to the 2012 First Citizens Barbados Open 10-goal Tournament, at the Apes Hill Polo Ground.
Five teams – Range Rover, Bulova, CIBC First Caribbean, Heineken and The First Group – were slated to vie for honours.
