BARBADOS will have a new captain for their fifth round WICB four-day match against Guyana starting Friday at Kensington Oval.
Shamarh Brooks, who is yet to play a match for the season, has been given the job in the absence of regular captain Kirk Edwards.
Edwards sustained an injury while fielding during the fourth round match against Combined Campuses and Colleges.
He is currently attending the West Indies team’s training camp in preparation for the Australia tour and it has been recommended that he continue to receive appropriate physiotherapy to facilitate his recovery process.
It is the second time Brooks will captain the senior Barbados team, having stood in for one match when Ryan Hinds was ill last year.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Shane Dowrich, who missed the last game because of a blow sustained just above the left eye in the third round, has been appointed vice-captain.
Barbados will be missing the services of West Indies selectees Kemar Roach and Tino Best, along with fellow pacer Fidel Edwards, who is playing in South Africa’s domestic Twenty20 competition.
In the circumstances, the selectors have recalled veteran fast bowler Pedro Collins and called up uncapped  pacers Miguel Cummins and Justin Greaves.
SQUAD: Shamarh Brooks (captain), Kraigg Brathwaite, Omar Phillips, Ryan Hinds, Jonathan Carter, Kenroy Williams, Kyle Hope, Shane Dowrich (vice-captain), Christopher Jordan, Justin Greaves, Sulieman Benn, Pedro Cummins, Miguel Cummins, Rashidi Boucher. (HG)
