It was six years ago when the pupils of Hillaby Turner’s Hall Primary claimed the double division championship.
That feat was replicated on Tuesday when the St Thomas school emerged top of the Anton Norris Zone of the Pine Hill Dairy National Primary Schools’ Athletic Championships (NAPSAC) in both divisions.
The victorious youngsters, their teachers and some parents took to the streets of the surrounding district yesterday in a celebratory march.
“We are doing a ‘walkcade’ through Farmer’s, and this afternoon we will be treating the athletes with food and songs,” said principal Karen Best, adding that Hillaby Turner’s Hall Primary was the only primary school to win both divisions in a zone so far.
The school also boasted one of the three victors ludorum in ten-year-old Torian Waldron, who won the 400 metres, the 200 metres and the long jump.
“It feels good [to be a victor ludorum]. I’ve won [in NAPSAC] before, but I’ve never been a victor ludorum,” he said.
Waldron will be sitting the Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination this year and said he wanted to pass for Combermere where he planned to continue in track and field.
