There were cheers andshouts of joy at the Parkinson Memorial School yesterday.
The occasion was the celebration of the school’s athletics hero Sonia Gaskin, this year’s victrix ludorum in the 2012 Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships.
Small in stature, the quiet 17-year-old  took the gold medal in four events – the 400 metres, 800 metres, 1 500 metres and 3 000 metres – the first female to do so in the history of the tournament.
