Eight races are on the card for the Barbados Turf Club’s seventh day of the first racing season tomorrow at the Garrison Savannah but only half of the races have the full complement of entrants of 12 or more.
The Realtors Limited Race Day will feature the 11th running of the Michael Parravicino Memorial Hopeful Breeders’ Stakes and Trophy Gr.11 event for Barbados bred three-year-olds at allotted weights over 1 570 metres.
Only four of the races carded have the full complement of entrants, yet a whopping 43 horses were sent back to the stalls as reserves.
The 1:30 p.m. post time will permit for there to be at least two other races.
Questions might be raised about insufficient sponsorship.
Ironically, last race day, fans witnessed a ten-race card which included a four-horse field.
One has to question whether enough is being done to ensure that owners and their charges get a fair chance to earn their keep.
The opening event – Dene Court Luxury Villa Trophy Handicap for horses rated 68-90 and horses rated 67 and below over 1 570 metres will get the afternoon’s proceedings going and it appears a pretty wide open affair.
Erados takes top weight of 130 pounds and although he was miles below his best last effort he should not be written off.
Nomoreginrog, Victor Ludorum and Lady Quill have all won their last outings. The trio is at the top of their form but will all have to fight tooth and nail as this race will be no hand-me-down.
Champion horse Kendal Moon should record the easiest win of her fruitful career when she takes on five opponents in the Bonaventure Challenge Stakes and Trophy over 1 570 metres. The expected win here will move her record to nine wins from 14 starts.
A small eight-horse field has taken entry for the Condominiums At Palm Beach Trophy Handicap for horses rated 75-100 and horses rated 74 and below over 1 100 metres.
Daga is pencilled to carry 133 pounds. She has not sprinted in her last ten starts and could find the trip too sharp at this stage in her career.
Cavaichi will want to erase his first effort on Barbadian soil.
He shares the top weight with Daga and should be more at home over this trip. Shared Adventure tackles older horses for the first time. Loaded with early speed it will be interesting to see how he handles this more experienced group.
