V-ball boost for primary students

Hundreds of primary school students will be introduced to the rudiments of volleyball thanks to an initiative launched by the Barbados Volleyball Association.
Yesterday several primary schools were each given ten kids’ volleyballs from the BVA to assist with the development of the sport at that level.  
Co-ordinator of the youth programme, Carol-Lyn Edghill said that with so many opportunities on offer at the regional and international level, the BVA was consciously pursuing intense introduction and development of volleyball at the primary level.
While indicating that the BVA had already donated a number of kids’ volleyballs to the National Sports Council for their schools’ programme, Edghill said that the latest contribution was targeting those schools which were not in the NSC’s setup.
“Furthermore, the kids’ volleyballs will help to allay the fears which the children have of the bigger and heavier balls. The younger age that we can get children grasping the basics of volleyball will help to realize our objective of producing world class players in the future,” said Edghill.
Many of the coaches who accepted the balls for their charges expressed enthusiasm in developing volleyball at their schools.    
The schools benefitting  were Arthur Smith, Bayley’s, Blackman/Gollop, Charles F. Broome, Eagle Hall, Gordon Greenidge, Grantley Prescod, Hillaby Turner’s Hall, Holy Innocents, Luther Thorne, St. Albans, St. Bernard’s, St George Primary, St Martin/Mangrove, St. Paul’s, St. Silas, Vauxhall Primary and NAPSAC champions, West Terrace.
