ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND HEALTH BENEFITS are expected to be derived from the Kiwanis 95th Annual Eastern Canada and Caribbean District convention to be held in Barbados next month.
Kiwanis Club of Barbados representatives announced yesterday that for the second time Barbados would be hosting the conference, which was expected to be attended by close to 500 people from around the world.
John Cumberbatch, vice-chairman of the host convention committee, explained that the event was planned for May, traditionally a slow time for the sector, and it would bring increased numbers to the hotels and the spending could benefit the economy.
Cumberbatch projected that though the cost to host the convention would be in the range of $300 000, with the amount that was expected to come into the island through hotel and services sector figures could be $800 000 and upwards.
