FROM?THE?the tender age of eight, trainer Evans Clayton Greenidge has been attending horse racing at the Garrison Savannah.
Always keen on the races, he became more involved as he travelled to Trinidad and Tobago, where he owned few horses, in 1942.
When he returned to Barbados in 1956, he took out a trainer’s licence, a move he has never regretted.
Now, at the ripe old age of 91, Clayton, as he is known to most, is one of the oldest trainers in the Caribbean and in the world.
Horse racing has been his life and this year marks 56 years that he has been practising his craft. But with only one horse in training – Sweet Enough – he indicated with a pleasant smile that he is coming to the end of his career.
