Brathwaite, Lovell early winners

The familiar?names have already stamped their mark on the 11th National Industrial Games, ahead of tomorrow’s showpiece athletics meet at the National Stadium.
Andrew Brathwaite won last weekend’s five-kilometre run in the 50-54 age category in a time of 17 minutes, 56 seconds. He was followed home by Reynold Walters (18.01), Noel Ellis (18.37), Glyne Clarke (19.11) and Lester Phillips (19.25).
Ainsley Lovell was a comfortable winner among the women, clocking 22.17 minutes. Valencia Paulina (23.48) was second with Cheryl Edwards (26.11) third. Also finishing in the top five were Betty Alleyne (27.54) and Arlene Goring (28.09).
Rodney Blackman triumphed in the Men’s five-kilometre walk with Eon Mitchell and Omowale Stewart second and third respectively.
Don Gittens was fourth and Christopher Moore fifth.
Veta Batson was the first woman home, followed by Angela Jackson, Sandra Murray, Gloria Aho-Labi and Beverley Beckles. Forty-six walkers and 45 runners faced the starter.
Meanwhile, the semi-finals and final of the Seniors Fast Net competition have been postponed until next Tuesday and Thursday at the Netball Stadium. (EZS)
