BSTU unmoved

The Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) is not moving from its position.
Even with yesterday’s announcement by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart that a “dangerous” industrial precedent would be set if principal of Alexandra School, Jeff Broomes, is separated from the school, and that a commission of inquiry headed by retired Appeal Court judge Mr Justice Frederick Waterman would investigate the situation at the school, the BSTU maintains that Broomes’ separation is the only option.
Having stated that, members of the executive had deferred further comment on the matter until today when they would have had a chance to discuss issues coming out of a Press conference called by Stuart yesterday evening to speak on the issue.
The teachers again withdrew their labour from the St Peter school yesterday and industrial action continues today, which means teachers would effectively have been off the job for three of the four days of this term.
