It’s over to retired justice Frederick Waterman to settle the impasse between the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) and embattled principal of Alexandra School, Jeff Broomes.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday passed the responsibility for resolving the dispute to Justice Waterman, who is to thoroughly investigate the issues and advise the Governor General of his findings.
The revelation came during a post-Cabinet Press conference at which Stuart admitted the situation at the St Peter school remained “grave and undesirable”, 12 weeks after he was forced to intervene in the hope of brokering a solution.
He told reporters that Cabinet had decided a commission of inquiry was the best way forward in settling the matter that had already cost students almost a month of teaching time over the last two terms.
