Ryan Brathwaite is back.
Months after being written off for dead, the former World Champion opened the season with an Olympic “A” qualifying time of 13.29 seconds yesterday afternoon at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic in Gainesville, Florida.
Brathwaite was second overall in the 110 metres hurdles behind American world leader David Oliver, who won in 13.17 seconds. Joel Brown was third in 13.30 with a legal 1.5 wind.
It was a quality field that included David Payne and Briton Andy Payne, the 2011 World Championships bronze medallist.
Earlier in the prelims, Brathwaite clocked 13.40 but the wind was high at 2.1.
Brathwaite’s last race was the first round of the Daegu World Championships where he did 13.57 and did not advance to the semi-finals. (SAT)
