SEXUAL HARASSMENT legislation is coming to Barbados very soon as part of a raft of sweeping labour laws that should protect workers and change the way they see themselves, says Minister of Labour Esther-Byer Suckoo.
She told the House today that in four years of office her Government had been able to keep its Manifesto promise to workers and bring the Employment Rights Bill and Holidays With Pay Bill to Parliament.
She also said her ministry had taken files of sexual harassment legislation, dusted them off and returned them to the relevant stakeholders for their perusal and for eventual debate.
“The Cabinet has approved the drafting of the sexual harassment legislation . . . and we’ve carried that back through our consultative process,” she said, adding that the Sexual Harassment Bill would be going to Parliament “in the very near future”.
“I’m looking forward to that, Mr Speaker,“ she said, while introducing the Employment Rights Bill, 2012, in the pre-lunch session of today’s sitting.
