Fire destroys St James home, damages another

QUICK ACTION BY RESIDENTS in a quiet St James community averted what could have been a major disaster after fire destroyed the home of Rudolph Williams.
It was around 3 p.m. yesterday when fire officers responded to the blaze at Lower Holder’s Hill, saving the home of Olive Scantlebury.
“I heard an explosion outside and I thought it was something that had hit down on the main road, so I didn’t pay it any mind,” Scantlebury recounted.
“But a few minutes later, I saw a dark shadow appear over the house.”
