WELL BEFORE the 8:15 start of work at the Inland Revenue Department yesterday morning, scores of Barbadians lined up outside the Treasury Building in a last-minute rush to file their taxes on the April 30 deadline and avoid the $500 fine for late filing.
In lines snaking into the building, Barbadians from all walks of life gave myriad reasons why they had waited until the last day to file their claims. Most indicated that their tardiness was due to challenges with filing online, as well as the customary last-minute behaviour by Bajans.
Some individuals also indicated they had forgotten their passwords and had turned up to be given their passwords to log onto the system to do their online filing. And some said they were returning after the long lines on previous days had deterred them. Â
One teen told the DAILY?NATION she had worked during the holidays and was keen to file as she could find something to do with her expected refund.
