The ties between Barbados and Canada go way back, and there were many warm exchanges between guests attending the Canadian High Commission’s reception for Canada’s Governor General the Rt Hon. David Johnston and his wife Sharon Johnston at the Officers Mess, St Ann’s Fort last Monday.
Canadians resident in Barbados, people from the local business sector, law enforcement and representatives of government were among the guests invited to meet the Canadian visitors.
At the reception hosted on the spacious grounds of the fort, which is home to the Barbados Defence Force and an ideal setting for the occasion, the governor general spoke fondly about the relationship between the two countries.
The formalities of the early afternoon affair soon gave way to cocktails going into twilight, a hospitable Bajan ending to the governor general’s two-day visit.
