Former assistant gets wish

SHE STILL DOESN’T know why she lost her job, but the Minister of Labour’s former personal assistant Alicia Deane says she’s putting the dispute behind her after finally receiving the document that will allow her to get unemployment benefits.
Almost five months after being dismissed by Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo and two days after her story was highlighted in last week’s SUNDAY SUN, Deane received a call from Cabinet Secretary Patrick Cobham and subsequently collected her termination-of-services/lay-off certificate (green paper) which she had complained was being withheld.
“All’s well that ends well,” a relieved Deane said after collecting the document which was dated May 8, 2012, and signed by Cobham.
“It still doesn’t give a reason [for the dismissal] . . . but I’m satisfied with the green paper. I now have it in my hand and I can now go and claim my unemployment benefits.
