A brilliant unbeaten performance by Anthonette Riley led Flash Media Photos Rising Sun to an impressive 3-1 victory over Fast Loopers “A” in the second round of the Roleric Miler Division Two Table Tennis Club Championship at the Table Tennis Centre, Nursery Drive, Tuesday night.
Riley beat Russel Maxwell 9-11, 13-11, 11-3, 12-10 to put Rising Sun back on even terms after Philip Hackett had lost to lefthander Akeel Lovell in straight games at five, five and 13.
Riley, a bit tentative early on, found her touch in a hard-working effort against Maxwell but was at her brilliant best when she stroked the ball fluently on both wings to humble a seemingly confident Lovell 11-9, 13-15, 11-7, 11-2.
The 14-year-old Combermere student justified the confidence placed in her by being assigned to the play in the key position.
She got excellent support from her father and coach Peter “German” Riley who toppled Larry Smith 11-7, 14-12, 11-7 in one of his most dominant performances of the season.
Fast Loopers “B”, on the strength of two wins from Kristian Doughty, defeated Mount Gay Bayswater 3-1.
Bayswater and Loopers “B” are among five teams competing for positions six to ten in the division two standings. The others are Central Bank, Reddy Kilowatt “A” and Reddy Kilowatt “B”.
Sports and Games Spinners, BDF Sports Programme, Fast Loopers “A”, Rising Sun “B” and Flash Media Photos Rising Sun are competing for the top five positions.
In the other match, Barbados Defence Force beat a two-man Rising Sun “B” team 3-2. (PH)
