Party trick

Some people applying to the police for permission to play music are trying to beat the system by claiming that they are having a birthday party when in fact they are holding a pay-to-enter fete.
Superintendent Lybron Sobers, who is responsible for overseeing the applications, said this was one of the many ways that people were trying to trick police into granting them permission to play loud music.
“When we do our investigations, we discover posters advertising the fetes or when we go to the place where the ‘birthday party’ is being held we find that there are at least five DJs and persons paying at the door to enter. In a case like that, we would shut down the music,” he said.
Last year Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin announced tat senior police officers would be reviewing applicatins for permits to play music at events, as he expressed concern about what he called a “fete mentality’ which had taken over Barbados.
