Olympic qualifier Shane Brathwaite has made it to today’s final of the 110-metres hurdles at the Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Collegiate Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Brathwaite won the first of the three heats in 13.52 seconds to be one of the automatic qualifiers. The Texas Tech Junior also confirmed his qualification to the London Olympic Games by hitting the “A” standard again.
The former world youth octathlon champion will be running out of lane three in this afternoon’s final.
Sophomore Greggmar Swift of Indiana State was not as fortunate. He finished fourth in the same heat in 13.60 seconds, reaching the Olympic “B” standard again. He was tenth overall and missed the cut for the top eight.
Althia Maximilien of Missouri State recorded a personal best 53.07 seconds in the women’s 400m semifinals, but she also missed the cut, finishing 19th overall.
Brathwaite’s Texas Tech team finished 15th in 39.92 seconds in the 4×100 metres relay, so he won’t get All-American honours in that event. He did not run in the 4×400 team, which finished last.
Latoya Griffith, who was hoping to reach the final with her Illinois State’s 4x400m team, suffered  disappointment when they were disqualified. (SAT)
