NIS providing security to many

THE NATIONAL INSURANCE SCHEME (NIS) is “critical” to the financial security of Barbados and this is something those who are employed there must understand, said acting Minister of Labour Patrick Todd.
Todd, addressing the NIS GEM (Great Employees Matter) ceremony on Saturday night in The Plantation Theatre, St Lawrence Main Road, Christ Church, said the NIS provided a level of income security for disabled workers, spouses and survivors, and their children.
“The critical importance of these benefits for family income security simply cannot be overstated . . . [so] I want to take this opportunity to remind you of the critical role you play in ensuring people receive their benefits in a timely fashion . . . [while] you continue to provide the highest level of customer service that you can,” he said.
Featured speaker CARICOM ambassador Robert Morris also praised the uniqueness and quality of the NIS.
“One of the things we have not done well in Barbados is that we have not appreciated the Barbados way. We are always looking to see who we can borrow from [and adopt their model] but we have a model; it’s a brand of excellence built in Barbadian skills, knowledge and attitudes.
