A Pine Hill Dairy (PHD) proposal that fresh milk production be cut by 30 per cent for six months has farmers fearing about their future.
The president of the Barbados Dairy and Beef Producers Association, Brian Allan, told the WEEKEND NATION that dairy farmers could not take a 30 per cent reduction.
“There will be no industry by the end of the year. Every farmer would go out of business, my farm would not be able to survive and I have one of the larger farms,” he said.
Allan who represents 17 dairy farms producing five million kilos of milk per year and employing an estimated 100 workers, said that the milk glut could be blamed on PHD’s suspension of its quota system.
